Our Hurricane Damaged Catamaran
Our new home is a 2014 Fountaine Pajot Mahe 36 Duo version.
She was damaged during two named hurricanes in 2017, the major one being Irma in Nanny Quay in the BVI's. The previous owner then moved her to Puerto Rico where we first moved aboard.
We found her on Craig's List one afternoon on a day off from work in Grand Cayman. Davy came to PR to have a look at her and decided it was a great project for us to take on.
Yes she does need a lot of work but what boat doesn't!
We are ready for the challenge!
We have started many jobs on board our new boat! As you can see there is a fair bit of fibreglass damage. Luckily Davy has been working with glass for a very long time. He has started strengthening many parts of the boat, including the port side wall you can see in this photo here.
The port side of the cabin top is going to be one of our biggest projects on board. There was a mould made from another Mahe 36. This mould is priceless to us! It means we can build an exact piece that matches the other side of the boat!
The rigging is something we will have to get help with along the way as we do not have experience with this. We will prioritize the fibreglass work which we can do ourselves while we work to save up for a new rig!
